Positive Global Peace: How can we achieve it?

God’s blessing on all nations,
Who long and work for that bright day,
When all Earth’s inhabitants,
No war, no strife shall hold its sway;
Who long to see
That all men free
No more shall foes, but neighbours be.

France Prešeren, Slovenian National Anthem

All the worlds countries should strive towards achieving peace on Earth. However, even though peace should be the greatest value we should strive towards, usually, what happens is that peace is the most highly valued during war times, while during peaceful times the peace becomes less of a value we strive towards. Which, is why, the less it is valued the more likely it is that we live in peace times. I would like us to through friendship and love to find it in our hearts to reconcile towards peace. A community characterized by a cooperative order bound by the law of love, where each person’s individual dignity is affirmed and promoted, while simultaneously recognizing that each individual exists as part of an interdependent community of being, which can be united and strengthened through a cooperative order. All the worlds countries should strive towards achieving peace on Earth. The question arises what happens with the people and fairness? Can we achieve peace without ensuring that the people and their wishes are respected? Can we achieve peace and justice without going to war?

I believe that the path to peace is through law and justice system. No doubt this is a high calling which goes beyond our ordinary laws and limits of human conduct, and the question of how to specifically reconstruct law on this basis looms. This requires a common effort by all the nations across the globe to come together for the good of humanity working together to achieve a common vision. We may need to look past some of the inequities and things that set us apart and find common ground. The pathway to peace is necessary to be achieved through the common unity, which can be surrounded around the common vision for the future of our Planet. If we get the whole world working and striving towards achieving heaven on Earth, we should also strive towards achieving peace on earth.

We may strive for that bright day when no weapon will be fired against one another, leaders of this world will find ways to efficiently manage the risk, ensure the alignment to protect freedom of all of the worlds inhabitants, where cultures and differences are not something to be feared, however embraced as something that makes us unique, different, while at the same time the same. In Christian religion is one of the greatest sins is to kill one another human being. Time is now that we protect all the nations and its citizens from war, while working together to bridge the gap on things that set us apart in order to protect the citizens of this world.

For centuries, humans have gone through war to achieve peace. However, the question arises, why would humans have to go through war to achieve peace, where war is the opposite of peace? Time is now for that bright day, when all the nations and men on earth will change its ways, no more foes however neighbors will be. This is the national anthem from Slovenia where I come from, and it describes exactly what we as humans should all strive towards. We need to understand that we are all neighbors and brothers and sisters before God. Which means we must act like this. We must find ways to resolve the disputes and find common ground. On that bright day when we stop fighting over our inequities with firearms, however rather with words, armies may become obsolete, and no war or guns will find it’s way on that day we will all come together to achieve the common peace and our common vision.

The law of love liberates us from the alienation and antagonism of the law, so that we may have life and freedom displayed in a cooperative order characterized by networks of charity. In this way, nations and worlds leaders will establish a truly sacred community of peace, interdependence, collaboration and alienation of practices that endanger peace to commonly protect and preserve people, countries and cultures. No doubt this is a high calling which goes beyond our ordinary laws and limits of human conduct. A community characterized by a cooperative order bound by the law of love, where each person’s individual dignity is affirmed and promoted, while simultaneously recognizing that each individual exists as part of an interdependent community working together to achieve and promote the common vision for humanity which can be united and strengthened through networks of charity, love and knowledge sharing.

The common unity must be achieved. This requires a common vision for all the nations across the Globe to come together for the good of humanity. It is the time that the nations reconcile and find common ways of collaborating and working together standing together against inequities and discrimination. The politicians and political will are needed to create the better reality for us all that is more equal and that it requires how do we achieve the national and global positive peace. Advocating for more equality and justice worldwide is not enough. The question is why have we not created the global peace so far? The gaps between the inequalities, it is rightfully growing more urgent and more persistent. The bridge between them is through kindness, benevolence, cooperation, friendships, and love.

In the future a clear delineation on peace strategies should be made, which strategies show limited results, and which show greater power to create peace.

The society of peace focuses less on power and more on harmony and living to the benefit of people and nature. The important things to consider when designing the strategy to achieve peace, are the cooperation between states, the international associations that bind them together, and the common vision for a better future of our planet and people.  In a peaceful society armies will become obsolete and only an ugly image of the past. The pathway to peace, requires skillful management of subtle changes that can change how countries communicate, make decisions or collaborate. However, more importantly we need to spark the hearts of politicians to push towards peace.

If we look onto countries as being the ones who are handling disputes, there will always be one country and another who will be in a dispute and some countries will pull towards one way and another towards another way. However, currently some countries don’t even have the right to vote around the states of the world inside the United Nations. The United Nations have always been leaning towards Western countries or there is a fight towards the power between the UN between the superpowers of this world, while smaller member states never have the deciding votes. Apparently, the United Nations have been formed to extend the United States influence over the world and some even called it the United States of the World. I believe that the disputes in this way will not be able to be resolved. It is by far biased. We only, hear one side of the story. Nevertheless, if we use and base our decisions on law, justice and cooperation of countries we may resolve disputes easier. By changing the peacemaker from one country or group of countries to another, but rather to one single organization, we may reduce conflicts and find ways towards conflict resolutions in non-violent means.

A pathway forwards is through changing the United Nations, towards being a more appropriate peace maker then one or group of countries. However, the United Nations have so far been Western biased and leaning always more towards the United States less than towards different member states. Some even said that they have been formed in order to extend the influence of United States across the world. One big change, such as who handles disputes is not enough and it can breed resistance, however small slight modifications, events and changes that take place at the level of people through guidance, knowledge exchange, appreciation and inclusiveness of differences is needed.

I believe, that the pathway to peace is through the United Nations. The purpose of the United Nations is to “maintain world peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations, promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights”. If we are to achieve world peace, we must first strive towards including all UN member states inside the security council. This will be the path forward, we must outbalance the current state of the affairs and allow all member states to have their voices heard. In order to achieve the world peace all member states must agree to adhere to the international law that bides them to prevent escalation and using of weapons against its people or the people of another country.

In order to resolve disputes the member states should go through the United Nations and negotiate the peace agreements and prevention of human rights violations. A path way forward could be through the United Nations court of justice, that could decide based on all the votes of all countries to resolve the disputes. The United Nations should work closely with Hague and in case of human rights violations and the international bodies can be engaged to arrest the politicians, those in power or those starting the violent conflicts in an effort to maintain and achieve peace. The power over decision making over the affairs of the United Nations should be based on the votes of countries of all member states and not on votes or opinion of one or one group of member states. Members of United Nations of all the countries should be allowed to speak and put forward their opinions and ideas on how they can resolve the dispute and what is the appropriate course of actions.

Any choice should be decided by all the member states together. We should always hear the victim and their justification and the oppressor in their justification for the war. We should maintain the national sovereignty, while any disputes in terms of the national sovereignty should be handled through Hague. In order to prevent any escalation and to prevent armed conflict the member states should outsource their armies to the United Nations, which will become the institution that will be in charge of maintaining world peace. Nevertheless, the army of the United Nations should be different than most other armies, and it shouldn’t be designed for war, however for maintaining and creating peace. It is a trick question, because it could be that sometimes, when we strive for peace, we are the most likely to create war and when we strive for war we create peace. So the way that the army of United Nations could be designed still remains a question to be answered.

Their armies should be different than the armies we have been used to so far, which have aimed to win the war, and have the power over people instead of power with people. In this way the United Nations can become the one place on Earth where all the world’s nations can gather together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions that benefit all of humanity but most importantly preserve peace. From Christian religion and possibly in others it has been stated that it is a sin to kill. It is one of the ten commandments. How, can we therefore prevent and maintain peace in case, if the oppressing party disputes and uses guns or firearms? This is the tricky part, what kind of an army should the United Nations have and what should be the procedure in what way should they proceed to conflict resolution? We should even ask ourselves if human rights violations even exist? Or are they only a reason for pushing towards war. We need to look into what human rights violations are at all and how we can fight against them without weapons. We need to reconsider what United Nations stand for and, if they have been successful in their human rights protections and how can they be better in their operations.

The question here arises, is it possible to achieve the democratic level of decision making on a global scale and how? I believe that the path forward is through the United Nations. I believe that the United Nations have been formed with its role to preserve peace, protect democracies worldwide and protect us against rights violations. By making the United Nations the peace maker, as well as by outbalancing the power relations inside the United Nations we can achieve world peace.
